Here are a couple of more images from Pebble Beach. The first was taken just as the sun slipped below the horizon on the left. Just a few spots of warm color show up on the wet edges of the rocks. This image was tone-mapped with Photomatix, a really cool program that brings out every last bit of detail and color that is present. Some small adjustments were completed in Photoshop to fine-tune the image. Although I normally gravitate towards a portrait orientation when composing landscape photos, landscape crop seemed to really pull me into this scene. Enjoy!

Now for a little monochrome action... I loved the swirles of water around the foreground rocks. To make a BW image work it needs lights and darks, or contrast. Without color to provide the impact, a good BW photo relies instead on shapes, tonal variations, and the play of light across the scene. Enjoy. BW conversion was completed in Photoshop with areas of dodge and burn to improve the areas of contrast.
